One Mug Hot Chocolate

You know when you just want one mug of hot chocolate?

Then you look in your cupboard for the hot chocolate mix - and there isn’t any? Womp womp

It is so easy to make your own hot chocolate from scratch, you’ll never be disappointed again! This recipe is for one cup of hot chocolate, but you can easily double or triple it for a crowd, or prepare the mix and have it on hand for when that craving hits.

Ingredients explained:

  • Cocoa - Use whatever cocoa you have in your house and you enjoy using. I like Fry’s, but you do you!

  • Sugar - This sweetens up your cocoa so it’s not overly bitter. If you prefer something not too sweet, then start with 1 tablespoon then adjust from there. If you’d like to use an alternative to white sugar, which is what this particular recipe calls for, go right ahead and adjust to taste.

  • Salt - Just a pinch helps to balance flavours

  • Cinnamon - Gives a more complex flavour, but if you don’t like cinnamon, then….don’t.

  • Milk - I like using whole milk for a creamy hot chocolate, but use what you have and prefer. Milk alternatives of course work for this recipe and even in a pinch, you could also use water.

  • Spoon

The recipe

One Mug Hot Chocolate

 

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp cocoa powder

  • 1-2 Tbsp sugar (to taste)

  • pinch of salt

  • pinch of cinnamon (optional)

  • 1 cup of milk or milk alternative

 

Directions

  1. Combine the cocoa, sugar, salt and cinnamon with 3 tablespoons of water in a large mug.

  2. Microwave on high for 45 seconds, then stir.

  3. Add milk to the cocoa mixture and stir to combine. Microwave in 30 second increments stirring in between until desired heat.

Go ahead and dress up that hot chocolate with marshmallows, candy canes, chocolate shavings, sprinkles, or whatever else warms you up.
