Is Candy Making At Home Right For You? A Quiz

It’s very scientific.

A wise woman once said:

"Some people make candy and some people buy it at 7 Eleven because that's what most people do, so why bother, it seems like a huge waste of time".

Candy making is rather particular and in my view, it takes a particular type of person to really get into it. This is not meant to scare you out of an exclusive club or anything, but maybe the questions below will help you consider a few things before diving in.

This wise woman has made a quiz for you to determine if candy making will really hard crack your toffee.

Do you like to bake and follow rules?

a. yes

b. no

Reason I ask: Candy making is baking's little sister that smiles at you while she pushes your bike into oncoming traffic.

Do you find yourself questioning recipes you find on the internet and then tweaking them yourself because what does this mommy blogger even know about yeasted dough anyways?

a. yes

b. no

Reason I ask: It's good to have a strong baker's intuition, because once candy making is underway and something goes sideways, you don't have much time to fix it. Having half an idea is ideal.

Do you like to research the chemistry behind baking?

a. yes

b. no

Reason I ask: Even when you think you've made sugar your beotch, sugar will find a way to knock you down a few pegs. There's always something to learn from a failed batch of candy. This is what I tell myself.

Are you a stubborn perfectionist?

a. yes

b. no

Reason I ask: Candy making is just so damn precise and screwing up is inevitable, so hanging in there and persevering is key.

Do you think Willy Wonka was misunderstood?

a. yes

b. no

Reason I ask: I used to feel like Willy Wonka gave off some strong Michael Jackson vibes. But when candy starts to run through your mind day and night, you start to understand why his hair is like that and why he has no social skills.

Does this quiz make sense to you?

a. yes

b. no

If you answered yes to most of these questions, then you should try making candy! If you answered no to these questions, you may not be the best candidate for candy making, but take comfort in the fact that you are probably a normal and functioning human. But what do I know, try it anyways and let me know how it goes.
